Pasties

This recipe comes straight from the Keweenaw Peninsula, where pasties are a way of life.  (and my sister in law Carol!)

Pasties

Crust:

1 C. Oil

1 C. Boiling Water

1 tsp. Salt

4-4 ½ C. Flour

Filling:

2 Lb. Ground Beef and Pork Mixed

Chopped Rutabaga

Chopped Onion

Chopped Carrots

Diced Potatoes

Combine meat with onions and set aside while cutting vegetables.

(Adjust the amounts of vegetables to your liking.) Cut potatoes last.

For each pasty, roll out a ball of dough and place ½ to ¾ c. filling on one side. Dot filling with butter or margarine, then fold the crust over and crimp the edges. Cut a slit in the top. Place assembled pasties on cookie sheet. Bake at 400° for 45 to 60 minutes. Serve with beef gravy or ketchup.

Freezes well too.
